Apple has announced the Apple Vision Pro VR headset, which introduces a new feature called the digital Persona, revolutionising the concept of avatars. With the front camera on the headset, users can scan their faces to create a highly accurate and animated virtual avatar. This avatar, known as the Persona, replicates the user’s likeness and mimics their mouth and hand movements in real-time, making interactions more realistic and immersive. The digital Persona can be utilised for various purposes, including collaboration in virtual meetings, socialising in virtual spaces, and even enhancing entertainment experiences like movie nights. Apple aims to integrate the Persona feature with their FaceTime app, enabling seamless communication between VR users and non-VR participants. The release of the Apple Vision Pro headset in 2024 allows app developers ample time to explore the potential of avatars and integrate Persona functionality into their software.
