Fortnite’s Creative mode, which allows users to build their own islands, is increasingly being used for music activations. Epic Games has now launched Unreal Editor for Fortnite, a PC-based application for building games and experiences in the game’s Creative mode. Fortnite’s Creator Economy 2.0 aims to make it easier for anyone, including music companies and individual developers, to build Creative Mode islands. It involves “engagement payouts to eligible island publishers,” with 40% of the money made from Fortnite’s item shop and real-world purchases reserved to be shared between builders. Payouts are based on island popularity, engagement, and attracting new players. Labels and artists’ teams are already working with professional metaverse agencies and amateur creators to build projects in Fortnite and rival platform Roblox, where music activations are already established.
