VRoxy: Revolutionising remote collaboration with virtual reality

Researchers from Brown University and Cornell University have developed VRoxy, a software programme that enables remote users to collaborate with colleagues in physical locations through virtual reality (VR). VRoxy allows users to put on a VR headset and be represented by a robot proxy in a remote space, where they can move and interact using natural gestures and expressions. To address differences in room sizes, the software employs an innovative mapping technique with teleport links, compressing the physical space into the VR world. Users can seamlessly transition between the VR environment and a live feed of the physical space, enabling them to interact with objects and collaborators. The researchers plan to expand the capabilities of VRoxy, including object manipulation, for enhanced remote collaboration in various professional settings.
